An Introduction

The term 'The Last House on Bad Street' has a specific meaning for every person who has spent a considerable time homeless, it resembles hope.  We eat when we can.  We can't bathe as often, or as well as most.  We might come to your church but we will sit in the back so that we can get out ahead of you telling us things that we already know.  We don't want to be in the public eye, and that raises a few questions.  The first problem is the conflict of my desire to isolate while living in a world that both confuses me and draws me in at the same time.  This isolation removes me from the people who would help.
After nearly 6 years of sobriety, I am learning to become a functioning member of society.  Since coming to Oregon in 2004, I have 'traded up' from the street and missions to a Ford van, then a Chevy van, then an apartment for almost 2 years.  Then I moved into a Toyota pickup camper.  Then came the motor home!  I still live in the motor home, in a small well-hidden park.  I have an electric meter, with extension cords.  I have a water hose that brings fresh water from the city.  Yes, I even have a toilet, and a hose running to city sewer.
This, so far, is my 'Last House on Bad Street'.  It doesn't need to be the last 'Last House', but its the home I have today.
